About Crosswinds

Crosswinds Church is a Christ-Centered community in Plainfield Illinois, located at the corner of Route 59 & 143rd Street. It is a place where you can discover who God is and live out your faith in uplifting and practical ways. We believe the Bible teaches that we don’t come to church but that we are the church, so we teach our members to have an impact on their families, workplaces, schools, community, and beyond. The church was started by ordinary people who God has used to do great things to show love and kindness in Plainfield, our county, our region, our state, and other countries..

Our goal is not just for you to come and visit us but for you to take what you learn about God at Crosswinds and share that with someone else to encourage them on their journey. God has a wonderful design for our lives, but life can be hard and we live in a broken world. We all need help and encouragement on our journey, so we seek to give people practical tools. These tools not only help them find peace and joy in their everyday lives, but help others to do the same. We are not perfect. The Bible says no one but Jesus is perfect, but we hope you will come and grow with us. We hope you will help us to make our lives and the lives of others better by discovering the hope that is found in Jesus Christ!

Meet the Family

All Grown-up and Out on My Own
Proverbs 18:24 | Sun, May 06, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

Children may dream of growing up and being out on their own, but the reality is that we need others. We weren’t meant to live in isolation, but to live in intimate fellowship.

"when i grow up…"
Ecclesiastes | Sun, Apr 29, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

As children, we all have positive dreams for our future. We say, “When I grow up… fill in the blank.” We dream about careers – what kind of job we will have. We dream about what our family will be like – marriage, kids of our own. We dream about how we will make a living and how we will live. In this message, we’ll see that without the proper dreams and purpose, life will seem tiresome, unfulfilling, and uncontrollable.

Epilogue
| Sun, Apr 15, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

The epilogue – the “after story” - is always an interesting part of the story. How did their life turn out? What impact did their words or work or sacrifice ultimately have on those around them? In this message, we look at the impact Jesus had on His followers as strong evidence of His claim to be the Son of God.

The Missing Evidence
John 20:1-9 | Sun, Apr 08, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

The sixth piece of evidence left by Jesus declaring that He is the Son of God is the uberevidence. The chief of all the evidence that Jesus is God is the “missing evidence” - the empty tomb, the missing body, the physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus from death.

The Postmortem Evidence
| Sun, Apr 01, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

Crime scene investigators can unearth lots of clues from the way a victim dies to understand the time of death, the cause of death, the relationship between the victim and killer, the motive, and the mindset of the victim as he died. In this message, Pastor John looks at the “postmortem” evidence of Jesus’ claim to divinity. His death actually provides very convincing evidence of His identity.

The Alibi Evidence
John 12:12-36 | Sun, Mar 25, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

Innocent people sometimes need alibis when they are wrongfully accused or their actions are misunderstood. They need someone to vouch for their actions, whereabouts, or identity. As we continue our look at pieces of evidence that support Jesus’ claims that he was the Son of God and innocent of doing any of the wrong things he was accused of, today we investigate at the alibi evidence.

The Eyewitness Evidence
John 9 | Sun, Mar 18, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

When he allowed the blind man to worship him, Jesus was declaring in a real way that He was God; no "regular Jewish guy" would receive what rightfully belonged only to God. The bind man believed not because of a long list of explanations about Jesus, but because of what was undeniable in his life - that he could see!

The Corroborating Evidence
| Sun, Mar 11, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

A look seven of the Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah. What was written about Jesus hundreds of years before he was born provides significant corroboration of His identity as the Messiah.

The Profile Evidence
Luke 5:17-26 | Sun, Mar 04, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

Did Jesus ever say that He was God? Jesus was brought up in a deeply religious culture with a clear viewpoint of God as revealed by His word and miracles. Everything that he said about himself and God was said with an understanding of how it would be interpreted by the people who heard him. Jesus did and said certain things to make it clear that he indeed did believe that He was the Son of God.

The Rewards of Redemption
Ruth 4 | Sun, Feb 25, 2007 | Pastor John Stillman

Every good love story must overcome obstacles. When two people overcome obstacles, they demonstrate their love for each other. The story of Ruth and Boaz is no different. In today’s last installment of the story of Ruth, we’ll learn some lessons on the best ways to work through the obstacles we face with godly wisdom and grace.
