Do you remember being a kid and creating a whole world with your imagination? The joy of all the possibilities you could create. God has given us imagination! Of all the creatures in creation, it is something unique He has given to us. We are made in His image and He is creator, a great imaginer. Ever wonder why there are some many varieties of flowers, fish, rocks, trees, bugs, and animals? If evolution is true, why are there so many kinds and colors of fish when one fish in a food chain would suffice. But instead, there are thousands, and some are so ridiculous and comical that they seem to serve no purpose but to bring joy to their Creator. Our God has an infinite imagination. Just think of the stars and how vast the universe is. Space is filled up with His wonders of imagination and we can’t even comprehend its size. No artist can truly capture the colors and composition created by His infinite hand.

We are made in His image which means He has given us an imagination. How do we use it? Many of us think we stop imagining as we grow up. But we do not stop, it just changes to be used on “practical things”. These practical things are worry, doubt, false prophecy, dark thinking and depression. In Romans 12 it says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” . Could it be that our imagination is what renews us? So what are you imagining today? All the infinite possibilities and purposes God has made you for? Or are you imagining how you may never pay that bill down, your marriage will never be fulfilling, people don’t like you, the world is falling apart, and your children are in danger. Unfortunately, most of us spend far too much of the gift of imagination worrying (imagining) the worst things that could happen. Why can we put so much faith in our negative imagination and so little trust in this gift God has given us to imagine the endless possibilities our Creator has in store for us. His word says He has plans to prosper us, for a future, and a hope. In Christ we have hope! We win! Why do we even stop and imagine failure!

Psalm 2:1 says “Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain? The word “vain” in some translations is “imagine”. Why as people do we imagine in vain? Vain means empty things, why do we think on empty things like worry which is false prophecy? If you made a record in your life of all the things you worry about and record how many have truly come about you, would find you are a pretty poor prophet. Prophets with that low a statistical average should be fired. I fire you today! Stop believing in your own prophecy. Instead, believe someone who truly knows all things, it is not a guess. God does not worry! If you continue reading Psalm 2 it says He sits in Heaven and laughs. He has a plan! A plan for you! A plan that is good. Imagine that!

The word “plot” also means meditate. To use our imaginations effectively, we need to learn to meditate. Meditation is focused thinking. To release power in our lives, we need to start plotting not on vain or empty things, but on Him where there is all fullness. The apostle Paul said this:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8

Do you spend your day imagining all the good things God will do for you? I have to admit I don’t. But I am repenting of my negative imagination. It is vain! Instead, let’s work to use our imagination that He has given us for His purposes. Let’s imagine how wonderful He is and how he has a wonderful purpose for our lives. We know this is true because He has given us His wonderful Son to prove His infinite love and purpose for us. Would He save you to transform you and your imagination and restore you to the power and glory you have been made for by His infinite imagination? Spend some time in prayer, focused thinking, and positive imagination about His purposes for your life today. That is not vain! It will be the most important thing you could do today!
